School-Based Mental Health Programs
Our children deserve every opportunity to succeed—not just academically, but emotionally and mentally. I’m committed to expanding access to in-school counseling for students who have experienced trauma or are facing mental health challenges. One path forward is to secure additional federal support under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to fund essential services in our schools.
I also want to pursue legislation that encourages partnerships between local school districts and college or university psychology departments. These partnerships could bring trained professionals and graduate students into schools—always with full parental consent—to offer support where it’s most needed. Parents must be informed and involved every step of the way. We can’t address mental health by cutting them out of the conversation.
Secure Federal Funding: Advocate for increased IDEA funding to support trauma-informed school counseling programs.
Foster Partnerships: Promote collaboration between local schools and higher education institutions to expand access to care.
Prioritize Parental Involvement: Ensure that no services are provided without a parent’s full knowledge and approval.
Mental health is a deeply personal issue, and it touches families across our district in different ways. That’s why I want to hear directly from you. Whether you’re a parent, educator, mental health professional, or someone with lived experience—your voice matters. Your stories, insights, and concerns can help shape policies that are both effective and respectful of local values.
If you feel led to share your perspective, I invite you to do so. Let’s approach this issue with compassion, honesty, and a shared commitment to making sure no child in our community slips through the cracks.
